Change the world

The NMMU Wind Symphony from Port Elizabeth will join the NMMU George Campus Choir in hosting the campus’ much anticipated annual Spring Concert in George.  The event, which will be presented in the NG Moederkerk on Saturday, 17 October, will also include performances by top choirs from the region, such as the South Cape Children’s Choir, the choirs from the Thembalethu and Imizamo Yethu secondary schools, and the George Male Voice Choir.

Preparations for the performance have begun under the guidance of Music Director and NMMU Music Alumnus, Jan-Erik Swart, who has taken a number of choirs in the region under his wing, including the NMMU George Campus Choir.

This year the NMMU Wind Symphony under the baton of NMMU woodwind lecturer Gareth Williams, will add another dimension to the concert, with a varied programme guaranteed to entertain all ages. Williams, who has worked both nationally and internationally in the live performance and music industry has been conducting and directing ensembles for over 20 years. He currently teaches clarinet and saxophone at NMMU and has been conducting the NMMU Wind Symphony since the beginning of the year.

Prof Quinton Johnson, NMMU George Campus Principal, has expressed his delight at the vocal development of the NMMU George Campus choir and their exciting, more inclusive repertoire which adds to their universal appeal.  He has also welcomed the participation by a diverse range of excellent choirs, as well as the excellent NMMU Wind Symphony, which set to take the NMMU George Spring Concert to a new level.

The master of ceremonies for the event will again be Eden FM Station Manager, Morné Pietersen.
