The George Campus cricket team showed excellent form in the recent B-section of the annual USSA Cricket Week remaining unbeaten during the pool phase before losing a tense final against Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

With winning margins of 428 runs against Tshwane University of Technology, 390 runs against the University of Venda and 254 runs against the University of Zululand, NMMU went into the final on an all-time high.

Unfortunately they could not repeat their batting power display in the final where they were dismissed rather cheaply for 159 runs. CPUT scored 160 runs for the loss of six wickets giving them a victory by four wickets.

For the team from George a small consolation came after the final when two players received three major awards, namely bowler of the tournament, Lyndon Volkwyn for his 15 wickets in four matches with a best of 5 for 12 and batsman- and player of the tournament, Kobus Scholtz for a massive 470 runs in four matches which included three centuries with a highest score of 188.
