NMMU George Campus Principal Quinton Johnson recently welcomed authors Jeffrey Herbst and Greg Mills at the George Civic Centre as they launched their book – “How South Africa works and must do better”.

The university's Centre for the Advancement of Non-racialism and Democracy (CANRAD), in association with The Herald hosted the book launch with NMMU George.  The book  launch ties in with an ongoing community dialogue and social engagement initiative by CANRAD and formed part of the authors’ ten day national roadshow to promote the book.

“The community dialogue provided insight into the current workings of South Africa on political, social and economic levels. It is pragmatic in its findings and offers solutions for the way forward”, said Laura Hammond, Marketing Manager at Pan Macmillan.

Members of the community, which included the Executive Mayor of George, Alderman Charles Standers, NMMU George staff members, students and the community at large, had the opportunity to engage in discussion with the authors as well as the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille, who acted as a respondent during the community dialogue.
