Visitors to NMMU’s Open Day in George can expect to interact with lecturers and staff from, amongst others, the Faculty of Arts, with programmes such as architectural technology and interior design represented at Open Day. The Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences will have a strong presence with a variety of business-related programmes, including Tourism Management and the variety of BCom options. Yet another new programme, the Higher Certificate: Business, is set to be introduced at the NMMU George Campus from 2016.
Furthermore, the Science Faculty, with unique George Campus programmes within the School of Natural Resource Management, such as Forestry, Wood Technology, Veldfire Management and Nature Conservation, along with Agricultural Management and Game Ranch Management is set to attract the interest of learners and visitors.
NMMU’s Physics Department and InnoVenton - one of the university’s centres of excellence which creates focus areas for the development of new products and new processes in a science technology environment will also vie for the attention of “enquiring young minds”.
The Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Information Technology will also have a presence, with a focus on, amongst others, ICT including a new programme introduced at NMMU George this year – the Higher Certificate IT (User Support).
Visitors will also get a glimpse of the excellent support and infrastructure that students enjoy across all NMMU’s campuses – including services for students with disabilities, student counselling and development services, accommodation, sport, student societies, library and ICT services, and much more. Eduloan and the Financial Aid Office, amongst others, will also be present to provide information on the important issue of funding.
Opportunity to register online during Open Day
In another exciting new development, prospective students who have decided to make NMMU their university of choice in 2016, will have the option to be assisted by the NMMU Admissions Office to submit their applications online during Open Day.
As a means of encouraging online registration and contributing towards a more environmentally-friendly, paperless society, NMMU has taken the bold step to waive the application fee for a limited time for applications submitted online for the 2016 Academic Year. Learners who prefer to submit hard copy applications will still be able to do so and will also pay a reduced application fee of R100 up to 6 August, and R150 up to 30 October 2015 when applications to study at NMMU in 2016 close.
Sport Programme incorporated in Open Day
A Madibaz Sport Programme aimed at learners of secondary schools and incorporating coaching clinics in sport codes such as cricket, hockey, netball, rugby, soccer and tennis, as well as a rowing challenge and a cross country relay for schools in partnership with SWD Athletics, forms part of the exciting Open Day programme on Friday, 15 May (09:00 – 16:00) and Saturday, 16 May (09:00 – 13:00). Most of the items, with the exception of the hockey and cricket clinics are presented at the NMMU George Campus. Hugo Loubser, NMMU George Campus Sport Manager, can be contacted for more details about the sport programme (044 801 5037).
A live broadcast by Eden FM from the Campus, scheduled for the Friday, will also assist prospective students across the Southern Cape to get their “future in focus”.
