Change the world

26/05/2020

After heeding the call to the institutional MaskUp campaign, the George campus volunteer team have managed to produce over 100 masks in just over a week. Campus staff and students sharpened their sewing skills, oiled their machines and vowed that no George campus community member will be maskless, during the Covid19 pandemic.

The ten-member volunteer team, made up of students and staff have been hard at work collecting donations, spreading the message but more importantly, producing masks. The first recipients of our #MaskUp masks will be our critical and essential staff members who have diligently given of themselves to continue protecting our campus and its community. Our Protection Services team have risen to the occasion by not only continuing their protection duties, but also filling in at times when our support services teams were observing the national lockdown protocols of staying home. The MaskUp volunteer team showed their appreciation by giving each one a mask.

As we gear ourselves for the return of staff and students in the next two weeks, we call on our community to continue donating towards this worthy initiative. Wearing a mask every time you step out is mandatory. Help us, so we can help you and continue doing our part to curb the spread of COVID-19.

We would also like to thank our Student Life & Development department, the Local SRC and individuals who are continuing to donate and support the drive.
