Learners and parents, teachers and other visitors were also able to view the campus and its facilities and attend several information sessions aimed at providing more details on the university’s new Admission Score system which will be applicable from the 2020 Academic Year.
While most of the visitors were from schools and TVET Colleges in George and the surrounding towns such as Grootbrak, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Oudtshoorn, Albertinia, Uniondale and Calitzdorp, several other groups and individual visitors came from as far afield as Vredendal, East London, Bredasdorp, Paarl, Fish Hoek, Cape Town and other western Cape towns, Johannesburg and Kwazulu/Natal (Maritzburg College), to experience the campus in person.
Learners who had already made up their minds to study at any of the Mandela University’s seven campuses (one in George and six in Port Elizabeth) next year also utilised the opportunity to be guided with the online application process by staff from the university’s Admission Department.
Lecturers also shared their passion for their areas of expertise, along with useful information applicable to prospective students through a series of live radio interviews conducted by Eden FM from the George Campus throughout the open days, on both 3 and 4 May, further extending the message of education as a means of empowering young people to “Change the World”.
Both the opening and closing of the event was facilitated by Mr David Alexander, the Acting Campus Principal.

With environmental stewardship being a core value of the Mandela university, and the School of Natural Resource Management (SNRM - Science Faculty) with its array of niche programmes located at the George Campus, it should come as no surprise that the Nature Conservation and Game Ranch Management team pulled out all the stops to scoop the prize as first runners-up at the university’s Open Days hosted at the George Campus on 3 and 4 May.
