This highly contested annual awards event, which acknowledges BCom Accounting students who had excelled academically in the previous year of study, was attended by numerous accounting firms, as well as SAICA and SAIPA, and other stakeholders who made use of the opportunity to network and to congratulate the students.
The SAICA Regional Executive, Mr Christiaan Vorster, thanked academic staff for their immense investment in the students. He also brought a message of encouragement to the students, stating that our country and region needs strong business leaders with unique competencies who act in the interest of the broader society; who embrace the principle lifelong learning and, most importantly, who have a strong “ethical backbone”.
George Campus Accounting Alumnus, Ms Mavis Mahlangu, who is now employed at Deloitte in Pretoria, attended the event as a special guest of the university. She shared her experiences, including challenges and successes with the accounting students, indicating that hard work and a daily study routine is key to success.
