Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) and the George Business Chamber have joined hands to introduce and share information on an empowering leadership approach which has the creation of positive work environments and cultures at its core.

Prof Quinton Johnson, NMMU George Campus Principal, who is hosting this lecture as part of his distinguished annual SUSTAINABLE FUTURES | LEADERSHIP SEMINAR series has expressed his delight that members of the  George Business Chamber, Southern Cape businesses, and NMMU staff at the George Campus will also have the opportunity to join the conversation on POS.

Dr Johan Schoeman“Creating Positive Organisations” is the theme of this first lecture in the series.  It will be presented by NMMU’s Dr Johan Schoeman at the NMMU George Campus (Lecture Theatre) between 12:00 and 13:00 on Friday, 15 August.  The lecture will tap into the underlying principles of POS – Positive Organisational Scholarship – which takes a fresh look at known organisational challenges and provides a roadmap to a more positive work environment.

“POS assists organisations in appreciating the hidden potential of employees, and in so doing contributes to higher levels of productivity, and ultimately, greater profitability.  It is a dynamic approach which places the emphasis on people and their well-being, which is ultimately rewarded through high levels of positive energy, creativity, excellence and loyalty which offers a more sustainable approach to business success,” says Dr Schoeman, a  lecturer and Positive Organisational Consultant at NMMU’s School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management in Port Elizabeth.

Earlier this year an Association Agreement was signed between NMMU and the Centre of Positive Organisations at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in the US.  This milestone marked the beginning of a unique research and academic partnership between the two institutions, with NMMU being the first university on the African continent to have been selected as a POS Association Partner by this prestigious business school.
