In conjunction with the George graduation ceremony, a special awards ceremony was held on 7 April 2022 on the Nelson Mandela University George campus.

Top achievers in Forestry, Wood Technology and Veldfire Management were recognised for their excellence in the Diploma and Higher certificate studies.

In the forestry diploma, three students were recipients of the special awards, Sanele Xulu received the award for Best Student in Forest Engineering, Silviculture and Human Resources modules, whilst Buseka Bhebhi and Lelonathemba Ndaleni received awards for Forest Management and Veldfire Management respectively. In the Wood Technology Diploma, Zizipho Pikashe received an award for the best student in Timber Seasoning and Likho Ndevu for Timber Processing. In the Higher Certificate in Veldfire Management, Luphumlo Tomana and Renier Groenewald received awards for the best student in the higher certificate, full time and part-time cohorts respectively.

In congratulating the students, Forestry programme coordinator Dr Ramantswana said “You have shown excellence in your academic studies during a difficult time of the COVID pandemic, we encourage you to continue on this trajectory in the workplace and other spheres of society”.
