The Madibaz Salon is a student entrepreneurship project established by Student Life and Development to empower student entrepreneurial skills. The project seeks to expose and empower students to run their own businesses rather than be job seekers.
“This initiative is meant to make students self-reliant and to become employers, providing fellow students access to essential services, that they require near their residences. In addition, it is safe and controlled at the University and adds to the vibrancy and campus culture” said Dr Sefoko Ramoshaba, Deputy Director Student Life and Development.
At the launch of the Madibaz Salon, Senior Director George Campus Dr Kaluke Mawila, shared words of encouragement and excitement for this great initiative on campus.
“Such initiatives not only improve student development on campus but also shape young people by giving them true life experiences. You are now proud business leaders, and you will learn valuable entrepreneurial skills for the world out there”, she said.
Third-year Marketing student Sinovuyo Sobekwa, second-year Tourism Management student Simamkele Nomsobo and third-year Forestry student Mkulise Mnqobeli, will run and manage the salon’s operations.
The Madibaz Salon is situated adjacent to the campus tuck shop, near the residences and offers barber services, manicures, pedicures, hair washing and treatments, braiding (extensions and natural hair) and make-up.
Initially, bookings for appointments will be done through the students via WhatsApp. A booking app is currently being developed to make bookings and payments electronic and easy.
