Members of the public are cordially invited to join NMMU George in a discussion of the findings of an assessment of 12 farms in the Central Karoo where livestock farmers have been established through the Settlement Land and Acquisition Grant Scheme (SLAG) and the Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development (LRAD) programmes of the Department of Land Affairs. The study is based on the findings (performance outcomes) of the past four years (2008 – 2011), compared to a baseline study conducted in 2008.

Johan Jordaan

About the speaker

Senior Agricultural Management Lecturer at NMMU George, Johan Jordaan, is an agricultural economist with an interest in Farm Business Management; Strategic Management; Entrepreneurship and Environmental/Resource Economics.

He completed his undergraduate degree in Agriculture (B.Sc. Agric) at the University of the Free State, followed by a B.Sc. Agric (Hons) from the University of Pretoria; and a B. Admin (Hons) and  MBA – both from the University of Stellenbosch.

His current research focuses on Financial, Economic and Entrepreneurial issues in agro-based enterprises.

Jordaan has delivered several conference papers in the past year. One of the latest papers delivered at the 7th Conference of the Global Consortium of Higher Education and Research for Agriculture in  Beauvais, France, in June 2011 (Jordaan, JW and Taylor, GJ. 2011) was titled: Innovation at the local level: experiences of a South African university in the transfer of knowledge and technology to rural and peri-urban agricultural enterprises through business incubation.

Jordaan has authored or co-authored numerous academic articles. Recent examples include the following:
